Rabobank took the #2 spot in the Dutch Social Media Monitor’s ranking for 2010. But what does it mean to be successful in social media in the Netherlands?
Though Rabobank has an emphasis on Twitter, the bank’s online communication specialist Robert Lommers says they are busy on multiple social media platforms, including rabosport.nl/now, various community service forums, Hyves (the Dutch equivalent of Facebook), and Facebook. But he says that’s only part of why they have been successful in the Dutch social media scene.
"It’s more like, what’s your strategy? What’s your long-term vision? Is Robert Lommers the only person using social media? Or is it the whole organization? And I think that’s the reason why we got #2 in the media monitor."
Mr Lommers says their strategy changes every year, but that their winning strategy last year focused on “being there”, both in terms of monitoring relevant online conversations and participating in those conversations. As he says, “If there are banking questions, there will be answers from Rabobank.”
