Summary
corporation innovation is misunderstood
completely. it should not be company level behavior, but should be
individual employee behavior. what company should do is to create a
system to liberate employee entrepreneurship. that will make big
companies have comparable innovation capabilities with startups.
Problem
the bigger the company grows, the less innovation gene it has. why startup is far more innovative and energetic than big company? the reason is innovation is individual behavior and passion, or at least it's tiny group's behavior and passion.
let's analyze mainstream corporation innovation ways:
1. idea farm
only collect ideas, but normally the execution is not idea maker. the idea will not be developped with real passion
2. biz plan competition
the competition only select "promising" team judge panels/company management think. but there are also lots of chances and possibilites among the huge elminated biz plans. entrepreneurship never is only elite's game.
3. corporate incubator
success startups don't grow up in greenhouse。 incubator provide too good environment to startup teams. and incubator has same problem with biz competition as well.
